বাঁকুড়ার পোড়ামাটির ঘোড়া ও হাতি নির্মাণের প্রধান শিল্পকেন্দ্র পাঁচমুড়া, সোনামুখি, রাজগ্রাম, হামিমপুর। ঘোড়া ও হাতিগুলির নিজস্ব ধাঁচ ও শৈলী রয়েছে। রাঢ়বাংলায় স্থানীয় লৌকিক দেবতা ধর্ম ঠাকুরের পুজোয় এগুলি ব্যবহৃত হয়। অনেক গ্রামবাসী আবার দেবদেবীর কাছে ঘোড়া মানত করেন। ধর্মীয় আচার-অনুষ্ঠান ছাড়াও টেরাকোটার ঘোড়া ও হাতি আজ সারা বিশ্বের ঘরে ঘরে শোভা পায়।
Terracotta horses and elephants
Panchmura, Sonamukhi, Rajgram and Hamimpur are the main centres of manufacture of terracotta horses and elephants in Bankura. Each centre has its own distinct style and technique for making these figures. Primarily used in the worship of Dharma Thakur, a local deity in Greater Bengal, villagers often offer these figures to the gods as part of their religious rituals. Now they adorn homes worldwide, highlighting their cultural and artistic significance beyond their religious context.
