Originated from the Medinipur district, madurkathi or madur is a long standing tradition
of weaving a specific reed named ‘madur kottir’. Is has been an important part of the
rural economy in Bengal and are predominantly woven by Mahishya weavers. Although
the word ‘madur’ has become synonymous with ‘floor mats’ in Bengal, it designates
anything made out of weaving the reed. Madurkathi mats are sweat-absorbing and
non-conductive making it an absolute favourite.

Coasters are used to rest drinks upon. It protects the table or the surface from directly
absorbing the temperature of the glass or the cup. It can also be used to cover the glass
or cup, protecting the drink from contamination. Or, to give others an indication that the
drink has not been finished.
